File guidelines

We print what you send us, at the size you choose. These are the file characteristics that make the difference between a transfer you are happy with and one you are not.

Accepted formats and limits

These limits are enforced by the upload form itself, so anything outside them is rejected before you can order.

Resolution

Resolution matters at the size you are printing, not in isolation. A 1000 pixel wide image is generous on a 3" pocket print and thin on a 12" front print. When you set your dimensions, our ordering page estimates the effective resolution at that size and tells you where you stand.

If a file falls below the acceptable threshold you are asked to confirm before continuing. If you confirm, we print what you supplied, and a transfer that prints soft because the file was soft is not treated as a production error.

Transparency and backgrounds

Anything that is not transparent will print. A white box behind your logo prints as a white box. For artwork that needs to sit directly on the garment, supply a PNG with genuine transparency rather than a white or checkered background flattened into the image.

Very soft edges, faint drop shadows and glows at low opacity can break up at small sizes. Where a clean edge matters, give the artwork a defined edge.

Sizing

Supply artwork at, or close to, the printed size you intend to order. Scaling a small file up adds no detail.

PDF artwork

PDF files are accepted. Because a PDF can contain vector artwork, embedded images at mixed resolutions, or both, its effective resolution is verified before production rather than estimated at the moment you upload it. If anything in your PDF would print below an acceptable standard, we contact you before printing.

What we check, and what we do not

Before production we confirm that the file we received is one we can print and that its resolution is adequate at your chosen size.

We do not redraw, recolour, vectorise, retype or rebuild artwork, and we do not correct design decisions inside a file you approved. That means spelling, layout, colour choices, alignment within the design and the dimensions you selected remain yours to check.

If you need artwork prepared or corrected, ask us first. It is not part of a standard transfer order.

Colour expectations

Screens are backlit and garments are not, so a colour on your monitor will not match printed ink exactly. Very bright fluorescent and metallic colours cannot be reproduced in standard CMYK printing. If a specific colour is critical to a brand, order a single transfer and check it before committing to a run.

Your responsibility for what you send

By uploading a file you confirm you have the right to reproduce it. Our Artwork Policy covers ownership, how long we retain your files and what we do with them.

A quick checklist

  • Highest resolution version you have.
  • Transparent background where the garment should show through.
  • Sized at or near the final printed dimensions.
  • Spelling and layout checked.
  • Correct file, not an earlier draft.

Artwork questions

What file formats can I upload?

PNG, JPG, JPEG, PDF, up to 25 files per order, up to 50 MB each.

For anything with a background you do not want printed, send a PNG with real transparency.

What resolution should my artwork be?

Aim for 300 DPI at the size you are printing. That is resolution at final print size, not the pixel count on its own: a small image scaled up to a large transfer loses detail.

Our ordering page estimates the effective resolution at your chosen size. Below 200 DPI it asks you to confirm before continuing, so the trade-off is visible to you before you order rather than after.

What happens if my artwork is low resolution?

You are warned at the point of ordering and asked to confirm. If you continue, we print what you supplied. A transfer that prints soft because the file was soft is not a production error, so please take the warning seriously or send a larger file.

Do you check my files before printing?

We check that what we received is what we can print, and resolution is verified before production. We do not redraw, recolour or rebuild artwork, and we are not responsible for spelling, layout or design choices inside a file you approved.

Can I send a PDF?

Yes. PDF artwork is accepted and its resolution is verified before production rather than estimated at the moment you upload it.
